Sketch Worthy No. 02

Ideas, inspirations, and things that make me want to create.

Sunday, August 16, 2026, 4:36 PM: Three photos from a recent kayaking trip on the Connecticut River.

  1. I loved the lily pads, even though there were so few blooms. The way they overlap and ruffle up at the edges is so interesting.

  2. This little rail bridge was a beautiful entrance into a quiet pond.

  3. The beautiful ibis we apparently kayaked too close to.

Sketch 1: color palette of the ducks in the river. The dancing movement of the tree was fun to work with in watercolor.

Sketch study 2: The pond near our home, full of goldenrod. Two herons landed down in the marshy area right before this picture! I wish I’d worked with the darker green trees in the background a bit more.

Sketch 3: Maybe my favorite in this group! The flowers in Prescott Park in Portsmouth are so incredible. Using the photo for reference, I sketched some of my favorite blooms and filled in the background with Caran d’Ache Aquarelle pencils.
